THE
GREATER ST. LOUIS
DAHLIA SOCIETY
Joe caught the dahlia bug when he was young.
He learned about dahlias from his grandfather
and began growing dahlias as a boy while
growing up in Ohio.
Joe is a past President, the
Education Chairman and also the Show
Chairman of the Greater St. Louis Dahlia Society.
Tom and Jenny are former St.Louis area
residents that now call Alabama home. They
also belong to the Alabama Dahlia Society, but
keep strong ties to the St.Louis Society,
returning every year to show flowers at the St.
Louis show.
Henry is one of the elder statesman and pools
of knowledge for the St. Louis Society. He
celebrated his 80th birthday this past year.
Henry also does a fantastic job with the
location of the end of year banquet and
awards ceremony each year.
The dahlia bug is genetic and can be passed
to younger generations. Brian is Joe Meyer's
son and his patch proves that one doesn't
need a large area to grow dahlias. He has a
15' X 15' raised bed. He only grows about 20
plants a year.
He is also the webmaster for the society.
Ken has been a member for over 40 years, although
he hasn't shown flowers in quite some time. He now
prefers to grow just for cut flower displays for his
home and for friends so he can show off our favorite
flower. He raises about 30 plants a year in raised
beds made of recycled flower pots.
Ken proves that you don't have to show flowers to
appreciate their striking beauty and variation.
